Disability is about the family, not just the individual

I refer to the report "Aid for parents of children with developmental needs" (March 2) and applaud the KK Women's and Children's Hospital and the Parenting Research Centre, Australia, for conducting the parent-support programme Signposts for Building Better Behaviour, to empower parents with the know-what and know-how for their children with development needs. Unlike the United States, Singapore has no law in her education legislation that mandates compulsory family-centred services for early intervention to help families meet the developmental needs of their children with disabilities. Hence, Signposts is an excellent programme to fill this vacuum. To ensure the lasting impact and success of the programme, there are five main conditions we should take heed of: 1.
