HR experts' take on govt pay cut

SINGAPORE: Human resources experts have welcomed the Ministerial Salary Review Committee's recommendations, although some have called for more clarity. The recommendations, unveiled on Wednesday, bring remuneration for Singapore politicians closer in structure to those in the private sector. The introduction of fixed and variable components, particularly, follow general guidelines for salary packages of management, while widening the comparison with industry has also helped. Singapore Human Resources Institute executive director David Ang said: "Judging from the previous way of pegging the salary, I think by extending it to the top 1,000 earners and also taking a discount... is a good start.
