A commemorative 50 pence piece being released as part of the build-up to the 2012 Olympics gives a simple explanation of the offside rule via a diagram. Sports journalist Neil Wolfson designed the coin after entering a public competition two years ago. 'I'm a sports journalist by trade and I saw this opportunity as a natural extension of what I do,' said Wolfson. 'This design itself is just a case of lateral thinking.
