STATS ChipPac holds ground breaking ceremony for new factory

SINGAPORE : The outlook for the semiconductor industry remains cloudy amid the global economic slowdown. Singapore's manufacturing sector grew at a slower pace of 6.5 per cent last quarter, compared to 13.5 per cent in the previous three months. Analysts said manufacturing growth for this quarter is expected to come in even lower at 4 per cent. However, STATS ChipPac, the fourth largest player in the global outsourced semiconductor assembly and test services industry, remains unfazed. The company continued with its expansion plans as it held a ground breaking ceremony on Thursday for a new factory to be built in Singapore. The new factory will enable STATS ChipPAC to expand its manufacturing capabilities for advanced wafer level technologies to support the demand for smartphones and tablets.
