Nine ISA detainees freed

SINGAPORE: Eight men detained under the Internal Security Act are now free after the Home Affairs Ministry allowed their Restriction Orders to lapse. This means they can now leave the country without the permission of the authorities. The ministry said the Restriction Orders (ROs) were allowed to lapse as the eight men had been cooperative and responsive to rehabilitation efforts. The eight include six members of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network, one self-radicalised individual and one Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) sympathiser. The Restriction Orders against JI members Muhammad Amin Mohamed Yunos and Muhammad Arif Naharudin lapsed on 8 November 2011, while those against Adnan Musa, Andrew Gerard, Fathi Abu Bakar Bafana and Halim Hussain lapsed on 5 January 2012.
