Oil spill following collision of 2 ships off southern S'pore

SINGAPORE : Two ships collided off southern Singapore on Wednesday night, causing a minor oil spill. It happened close to Pulau Sebarok - which is southwest of Sentosa island - between the vessels registered to Singapore and Malta. The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said the Singapore ship reported that about five metric tonnes of marine fuel oil leaked into the sea following the collision. The spill was contained after an inter-agency clean-up effort coordinated by the MPA. The Singapore vessel was moved to the Raffles Reserved Anchorage. An oil boom was laid around the ship as a precaution. There were no reported injuries. MPA is monitoring the situation and investigating the cause of the collision.
