SINGAPORE: Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan believes there is scope for Singapore to develop a niche role in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He said Singapore has had 10 years of TCM regulation and has made some progress in raising its standard of practice and training. And there is scope to do more. Mr Khaw was speaking during his ministry's Committee of Supply debate in Parliament on Friday. He said: "The key question for us is this: do we simply emulate the practice in China? Or do we forge a niche role for ourselves in Singapore, given our different history and greater exposure to Western medicine? "Both approaches are sensible. The second approach is more challenging but it may open up new opportunities. "For example, for Western drugs, the reporting of adverse events is routinely done.
