From dinners with grassroots activists to charitable donations, an MP's expenses are diverse and often hefty, say 10 MPs whom The Straits Times contacted. MPs now receive an annual allowance of $199,200, for the time and expenses incurred in that role. 'I don't see it as income for myself,' said Mr Tong, a lawyer who is an MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC. Having a separate bank account makes that distinction clear, he added. The committee to review ministerial salaries has recommended that the MP allowance be cut to $192,500.
