New 60cm-high wall to keep out water goes up at Liat Towers

A 60cm-high wall (above) has been built along the side and back of Liat Towers to prevent flood waters from entering its basement shops. This comes after the building was inundated by floods last month for the third time in two years. -- ST PHOTOS: ALPHONSUS CHERN By Poon Chian Hui It is but a simple brick wall lining the side and back of Liat Towers. But if flash floods hit Orchard Road again like they did on Dec 23 last year, this 60cm-high wall will hopefully keep the building's basement plaza from becoming a pond again. Work started last weekend to erect the wall, which will be 90m in length, after Liat Towers was inundated last month for the third time in two years. Water overflowed from a drain along this new wall into the basement plaza because it could not make its way into an already-full Stamford Canal in front of the building.
