Medisave can be used for cancer checks - Straits Times

PREVENTION is better than cure, which is why the use of Medisave has been extended to cover two costly screening tests. Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said yesterday that those aged 50 and above can now use Medisave for colonoscopies, which detect colorectal cancer, and mammograms to screen for breast cancer. Colorectal cancer is the top cancer here, with 1,455 new cases and 638 deaths a year. Breast cancer is the top cancer in women - every year, there are about 1,430 new cases and 329 deaths, according to the latest data from the Singapore Cancer Registry. A colonoscopy costs about $1,500 but subsidised patients pay about $380. A mammogram costs about $100, with subsidised patients paying half. Under the revised measures, you can claim up to $950 per colonoscopy and up to $300 every year for a mammogram. The move follows recommendations by the Academy of Medicine Singapor...
