DPM Teo's comments on youth arrests

SINGAPORE : There were 2,890 youth arrests made in the first 11 months of last year. Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the Home Affairs Minister, said the number of youth arrests has remained stable at around 4,000 a year for the last five years. In a written reply to Potong Pasir MP Sitoh Yih Pin, Mr Teo said following the incident on 1 December 2011 when two students were attacked at Potong Pasir Avenue 1, police swiftly arrested the perpetrators and they will be dealt with by the law. Police have also stepped patrols and conducted spot-checks on more than 250 youths. Mr Teo said police also gave out Youth Hanging Out Late (YHOL) letters to parents of more than 74 youths in the neighbourhood.
