Singapore Red Cross donates US$100k to flood victims in Laos

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Red Cross has donated US$100,000 to help victims in Laos, affected by the recent floods caused by Typhoons Haima and Nockten. Besides the loss of lives, the floods resulted in widespread damage to transportation, agriculture and irrigation systems. Crops, including the rice harvest, have also been wiped out. The Lao Red Cross will use the donation to provide food and other essential supplies to the farmers and those affected, in the Southern province of Champasak. The donation will be presented by deputy secretary general of the Singapore Red Cross, Mr Benjamin Jeyaraj William, to the president of the Lao Red Cross, Dr Snivourast Sramany, and secretary general Dr Keedaeng Thammalangsy at the Lao Red Cross headquarters in Vientiane on Wednesday.
