Japan PM to reshuffle cabinet on Friday

TOKYO: Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will reshuffle his four-month-old cabinet Friday, a senior ruling-party lawmaker said amid expectations that he will sack two ministers. The reshuffle is widely seen as a face-saving way to get rid of cabinet ministers whose presence could hamper his legislative programme because of opposition objections. "The prime minister told us that he wants to reshuffle the cabinet tomorrow to make its structure stronger," Shinji Tarutoko, acting secretary general of Noda's Democratic Party of Japan, told reporters Thursday. Tarutoko made the remark as he came out of a meeting of senior government and ruling-party members.
