Internet Security: S. Korea warned computer users to start their machines in safe mode #malware

SEOUL - South Korea warned computer users to start their machines in safe mode after finding new types of malicious code being distributed over the Internet. The so-called malware destroys data stored on hard disks and prevents installation of virus protection programs, the Korea Communications Commission said in a statement posted on its website. Malware was found and removed from sites including www.superdown.co.kr and www.sharebox.co.kr, Mr Lee Sang Kug, deputy director at the commission, said by phone, warning that the bad code could be spread by accessing file-sharing networks. These latest attempts to disrupt South Korea's online systems target individual computer users, unlike attacks that sought to cripple government websites during the previous two days, Mr Lee said.
