North East CDC announces help packages for needy students

SINGAPORE: The North East Community Development Council (CDC) announced two help packages for students who may be affected by the economic slowdown. To help needy students continue their education to the tertiary level, the CDC will provide a subsidy through the North East Community Education Assistance Programme. Under it, a needy student can apply for a maximum subsidy of S$5,000 or 90 per cent of the course fee, whichever is lower. The CDC says the assistance will be paid directly to the tertiary institution and in return, beneficiaries will be required to do community service. The CDC will also offer the North East Education Awards to the 80 primary and secondary schools and junior colleges in the district.
