ATM scam: 2 Malaysians arrested as DBS pays out S$1m to 696 customers

SINGAPORE - DBS Bank has paid out about S$1 million in compensation for the fraudulent withdrawals involving its ATMs, as the police announced yesterday that two Malaysian men believed to be members of a transnational ATM skimming syndicate have been arrested. Investigations are in progress to determine if the two men were involved in the DBS ATM skimming cases reported in the Bugis area recently, the police said in a statement. Separately, DBS yesterday said that more customers have come forward to report unauthorised withdrawals, although the fraudulent transactions remain contained to Jan 4 and 5. The total number of customers compensated now stand at 696. "Over the past few days, the number of reports made of unauthorised withdrawals made in Malaysia has tapered off significantly and we believe that almost all the affected customers have now been identified," the bank ...
