will be improved to better ensure the safety of consumer goods. The current 45 categories covered under the existing Act will be expanded to an estimated 15,000. The revised safety act will include, for the first time, toys, sports equipment and baby products. Under the new Consumer Goods Safety Requirements, suppliers will have to ensure that their products meet international safety standards such as those laid out by the European Standards Organisation and ASTM International in the United States. SPRING Singapore , the lead agency here, may also specify some requirements. No additional paperwork will need to be submitted. To ensure compliance, SPRING will do routine checks and keep abreast of updates from overseas counterparts.
