Gen Y and the part-time revolution

The Singapore workplace may have to change as more of Generation Y start having babies. Ms Sher-li Torrey (picture), the founder of [email protected] - a website that lists employers and mothers looking for flexi-work - observed: "Gen Y wants more control of their time, they want to have that flexibility to control their own careers." And it is a trend that seems to be growing strongly, going by recent letters to this newspaper as well as a recent event organised by [email protected] where Gen Y mothers dominated. More than 30 of the 40 participants "were younger mums, who ranged in age between 25 and their early 30s. They're the mums who are the most vocal, a lot of them are Mumpreneurs", Ms Torrey said - refering to mothers who run their own businesses which fit into their childraising requirements. Her portal has seen growing interest from employers regarding flexible work arrangements...
