MOE unveils blueprint to develop teachers

SINGAPORE - With teachers seen as the key to helping students move up the social ladder, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is pushing out a new framework, TEACH, to lay the foundation for their professional development, said Education Minister Ng Eng Hen yesterday. Among other things, 1,500 new leadership positions will be created in schools under the new framework. These include key personnel such as heads of department, subject heads and level heads. Non-academic positions include those that oversee student development and co-curricular activities. The MOE will offer more support for teachers to pursue post-graduate degrees, including options to work part-time, as well as study awards and incentives. It will also introduce a new full-time Postgraduate Award for teachers, as well as a full-time Undergraduate Study Award for diploma holders. The target is for one in five tea...
