Part-time study for working adults will soon be cheaper, with fee subsidies at polys and unis set to increase

Mr Andrew Tan, who has done a part-time ITE Nitec course and now has a place at Nanyang Technological University, says fee subsidies will help working people to further their studies. WORKING adults who want to further their education or upgrade their skills will now find it easier to do so. The fee subsidies for part-time courses at polytechnics and universities will go up, resulting in course fees being cut by up to 50 per cent in some cases. The Government will also provide more places. The five polytechnics will expand their capacity by 60 per cent to provide 10,000 training places yearly by 2015. Currently, a student is subsidised for only his first advanced specialist diploma. To enable workers to stay current in their work sector or to switch careers, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will now give a 70 per cent subsidy for those taking up a second advanced or special...
