New Government Initiatives To Encourage Learning Among Adult Workers: More funding and training places to be provided.

Adult workers going back to school can soon receive enhanced subsidies and one-off grants. An extra 3,600 training places will be provided for professionals, managers, executives and technicians who want to pursue part-time diplomas at the polytechnics in key sectors such as hospitality and logistics. This will bump the total number of training places to 10,100 by year 2015. Mr S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Education and Trade and Industry, announced in Parliament yesterday that subsidies for advanced and specialist diplomas will go up to 85% of total fees – up from 70% currently. There are also plans for adult workers to use e-learning to progress at their own pace, so as to suit their family and work commitments.
