Guwahati, Jan. 16: An abandoned two-day-old baby was bitten by dogs and pecked by crows in a drain near Gauhati Medical College Hospital here this morning. Abandoned in the dry drain located just behind the wall of the GMCH compound, which also houses Bhangagarh police station, the infant was alive when the police were informed. But, he succumbed to his injuries by the time he was rescued and taken to the adjoining GMCH, eyewitnesses said. One of the eyewitnesses said the infant was wrapped in a bedsheet, a gamosa and a sador and there was a big blue plastic shopping packet beside it. "He was probably left inside the packet and by looking at the clothes he was wrapped in, he seems to have belonged to a well-to-do family," the eyewitness added.
