14 face trial in Panama contamination that killed at least 282: PANAMA CITY (AFP) - Fourteen people will be put

PANAMA CITY (AFP) - Fourteen people will be put on trial for one of Panama's worst recent national tragedies: the 2006 case of tainted medicine that killed at least 282 people, a victims' spokesman said on Tuesday. 'The Second Superior Court has opened criminal cases against 14 people for crimes against public health including falsifying documents, involuntary homicide and personal injury from ingestion of the syrup which ended up being poison,' victims' spokesman Gabriel Pascual told AFP. Another 13 people avoided charges at least temporarily, Mr Pascual said, noting that he had been informed Tuesday by Court of Justice secretary Abilio Rudino. The date for the trial should be set soon, Pascual added.
