Shenzhen persuades helpers to stay on over LNY holidays

SHENZHEN: Many domestic helpers working in China's big cities would want to return to their hometowns during the Lunar New Year holidays. It usually means a severe shortage of helpers during the festive period. But some agencies in Shenzhen are finding ways to encourage their helpers to stay on in the city during the holidays. Anzi Domestic Helpers' Agency is one of the largest in this southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. And like other big agencies, it's offering incentives to persuade domestic helpers not to return home for the Lunar New Year holidays. There'll be free accommodation for family members of helpers who stay in the city. So rather than travel home to spend time with family, relatives can come to Shenzhen instead.
