The exemption will help both operators save about $7.96 million combined this year, as they bring in a total of 419 buses. Transport Minister Raymond Lim announced the exemption and outlined other improvements to bus services to reduce waiting time and crowding on buses in Parliament earlier on Tuesday. One in five bus services have been improved since the Land Transport Authority (LTA) began a quarterly review to improve capacity of heavily-utilised bus services last June, Mr Lim said.
