Fewer women than men expect to hit c-suite positions: survey

SINGAPORE: Tuesday was the 100th International Women's Day -- a day for appreciating women globally. But are women appreciated enough in the work place? A study by Korn/Ferry International has shown that only 6.4 percent of directors among the 100 largest home-grown companies in Singapore are women. The situation is slightly better in Hong Kong where 8.6 percent of directors are women. Meanwhile another global study by Accenture showed that women were somewhat less likely than men to say they had asked for pay raises (44 percent versus 48 percent) and promotions (28 percent versus 39 percent). The Accenture survey also found that, compared with their male colleagues, fewer women expected to reach CEO (Chief Executive Officer), CFO (Chief Financial Officer) or equivalent positions (14 percent of women versus 22 percent of men).
