Smoother ride on public transport: Total of 590 more MRT trips by the end of the month (via @TODAYonline)

Wow, the PAP is cramming all the "goodies" just before the GE. Typical, isn't it? The sardine-can conditions on our MRT and bus systems had started surfacing since the last GE in 2006 but, in those 5 years, the SMRT and SBS Transit had simply ignored commuters' cries for increased train frequencies especially during peak periods. They, to our collective horror, even boasted that frequencies were "optimal", whatever that means. Then the PAP government stepped in to support the operators' profit motivation since they were "commercial" enterprises accountable only to their shareholders. Another typically PAP retort. In Hong Kong, the HK MTRC and KCR are run specifically to ensure the minimization of gridlock, both human and vehicular. That's why trains in HK run at 1.5-minute intervals during peak hours. They operate until 2:00 a.m on week-ends and 24 hours on public holidays...
