S'pore mulls Organised Crime Act to target international syndicates:

SINGAPORE : Singapore is exploring introducing an Organised Crime Act as a pre-emptive strike against foreign groups hoping to penetrate the country's borders and sinking their roots here. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced this in Parliament on Wednesday during its Committee of Supply Debate. A year after casinos started operating in Singapore, authorities are sending a clear message to transnational crime syndicates - the law will get tough on them. The MHA said organised crime, that exist in countries like South and Central America where activities are diverse and syndicates embedded in societies, does not exist in Singapore. The casinos have not led to any significant increase in crime, whether organised or otherwise.
