A lack of confidence over local products has prompted a flood of mainland Chinese parents to sweep foreign brands off shelves in Hong Kong and Macau, triggering local supply shortages. -- PHOTO: AFP BEIJING - CONSUMERS' concerns over the safety of baby milk powder in China after contamination sickened thousands of children has helped foreign brands grab a lion's share of the domestic market, a parliament adviser said on Wednesday. Foreign brands have taken nearly 90 per cent of the domestic market as local brands lost market share after melamine, a chemical, was found in infant milk powder in 2008, said Liu Peizhi, a member of the advisory body to parliament.
