ShoreTel to launch Fixed Mobile Convergence service

SINGAPORE: Communications solutions provider ShoreTel is rolling out services that will allow mobile phone users in Asia to make calls over the Internet. The company said it believes the segment, which it calls Fixed Mobile Convergence, will be a new growth engine. To tap the region's potential, it has opened its Asian headquarters in Singapore. Calling your office from overseas could be an expensive affair, especially with the high roaming charges. A cheaper solution could be making those calls over an Internet connection through a service called Fixed Mobile Convergence. This allows calls to be made at very low rates, or for free between users. Companies typically invest in a router switch and pays a small licence fee for each user.
