(ST) Train noise study: More than half completed

An ongoing study to measure noise levels at elevated MRT tracks near residential areas islandwide is more than 50 per cent complete. Vipac Engineers & Scientists, the consultant appointed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), has completed measurements for more than half of 500 identified residential blocks within 35m of elevated MRT tracks. The study, encompassing about 64km of elevated MRT tracks here, should be completed by April. Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew provided this update in Parliament last week in response to a question from Marine Parade GRC MP Fatimah Lateef. Apart from taking measurements of sound levels, Vipac is also conducting computer simulations to gauge the effectiveness of noise enclosures in reducing noise.
