Some adopt healthier eating habits during CNY celebrations

SINGAPORE: Lunar New Year celebrations are not complete without the festive goodies. But there are some who are tightening their waistlines during this season of feasting. Climbing the stairs up to the 21st floor may be a huge feat to some, but not for 41-year-old May Pang and her family. Pang is one of the contestants of the third season of "Lose to Win" - a Health Promotion Board (HPB) weight management programme, to encourage individuals to lose weight the healthy way. Bak Kwa is a common snack at the Lunar New Year celebrations. One would have met the daily calories requirement just by eating seven pieces of the barbecued meat. A piece of Bak Kwa contains 300 calories. According to HPB guidelines, an average male adult need about 2,100 calories, while a female needs 1,600 calories per day.
