FOUR years in the making, King Kong Jane's debut album, Waiting For Friday, is certainly worth the wait. Longtime fans can finally listen to studio versions of live favourites such as Lollipop, If It Wasn't For You and the title track. Shamelessly channelling '80s post-punk influences into palatable 21st century Singapore indie rock, King Kong Jane (vocalist Colin Lim, guitarist Ian Ho, drummer Wu Jianping, bassist Lin Renquan and guitarist Lim Ruishen) infuses its energetic songs with melodies and hooks that linger long in the memory. Lyrically, the lads touch on subject matters close to their hearts, like the humdrum of working life ("The days go by the days go by so slowly" they sing on Waiting For Friday) and lessons provided by hard knocks ("So lemons are all that you've got to start your day with / Well start making lemonade" from Lemonade).
