Sailing: S'pore targets top three finish in Clipper world yacht race

SINGAPORE: Sailors taking part in the world's longest yacht race arrived in Singapore on Saturday morning for a stopover. The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race started in August 2011 from Southampton in the UK, and will last for 10 months, covering 65,000 kilometres and 10 ports. The 10 yachts in the competition sailed into Marina at Keppel Bay to end Race Seven in style. The race, which started from the Gold Coast in Australia, was fittingly won by the team from Gold Coast Australia. Crew members collected the Singapore Cup from Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. The Singaporean team meanwhile finished fifth in their home leg; and stay in that position in the overall standings. Their target is to be among the top three.
