Microsoft's Kinect sets world record as fastest-selling consumer electronics product

SEATTLE - The Guinness World Records has named Microsoft's Kinect as the fastest-selling consumer electronics product based on its first 60 days, the world's largest software-maker said on Wednesday. Microsoft said it sold 10 million Xbox Kinect sensors, the devices that help people play games using physical motion, in its first 60 days, when sales averaged 133,333 units a day. The company has also sold more than 10 million games for the device. Kinect sales of eight million units through Jan 3 exceeded the company's forecasts, even after Microsoft increased projections. The Redmond, Washington-based company is counting on the device to fend off competition from Nintendo and Sony, as well as to freshen the Xbox product and help Microsoft turn a bigger profit from the business.
