NEW YORK - Former United States Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said the latest jobs report shows the economy is "on the right road", but Professor Glenn Hubbard, an adviser to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said he is sceptical about the meaning of the January numbers. "Unlike many of the favourable past reports, if you look beneath the surface of this one almost every indicator within it is favourable," Prof Summers said on ABC programme This Week, where he appeared with Prof Hubbard, dean of the Columbia Business School. Employers added 243,000 jobs in January, the biggest gain in nine months, and the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3 per cent from 8.5 per cent in December, the Labour Department reported last week, exceeding the most optimistic forecasts in a Bloomberg survey of economists.
