Four Singaporeans accused in bomb plot must face charges in US

SINGAPORE - The Subordinate Court has ruled in favour of the extradition of four Singaporeans who have been charged in the United States for allegedly smuggling radio parts to Iran for making bombs. The four, Lim Yong Nam, Lim Kow Seng, Benson Hia Soo Gan and Wong Yuh Lan had denied any wrongdoing and had challenged the extradition request from the US, but District Judge Chia Wee Kiat rejected arguments that the offences are not extraditable. "An actual fraud had been committed on the US government," Judge Chia said as he handed down his decision yesterday. The four accused, who were arrested in Singapore in October, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the US, smuggling, illegal export of goods from the US to Iran, illegal export of defence articles from the US, false statements and obstruction of justice.
