Cherie Tan wins Bowling Championship in Japan, claims biggest cash prize by a Singapore bowler

SINGAPORE - National bowler Cherie Tan has won the International Bowling Championship supported by DHC in Fukuoka, Japan. Earlier today, the 23-year-old edged out top seed Dayang Khairuniza of Malaysia 218-179 in the women's stepladder final at the Hakata Star Lanes to clinch the winner's cheque of ¥6 million (S$97,500). It is the biggest monetary prize that a Singapore bowler has won. Part of the prize money will be ploughed back to the Singapore Bowling Federation for its various national and developmental programmes The five-day meet, which is held from Feb 7-11, is the fourth leg of the World Bowling Tour, which offers a total prize purse of more than US$380,000 (S$480,000).
