S'pore invests S$2m to prepare for London Paralympics

SINGAPORE: Singapore has come up with a S$2 million fund to boost its medal chances at this year's London Paralympic Games. The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) has launched the Final Lap to London (FLL scheme), which is similar to the Olympic Pathway Programme for able athletes. Singapore won its first Paralympic gold and three other medals -- one silver and two bronze -- at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. Now, the stakes are much higher. SNPC honorary secretary Frankie Thanapal Sinniah said: "That time we went to Beijing, to win those four medals, we didn't have the foreign coaches and yet we won. "But now the competition plans have... strategically changed. They are beefing up their disability sports and they are also employing foreign coaches."
