Japan quake victims need food and water more urgently than medical care

Victims of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan on Friday (Mar 11) need food, blankets and water more urgently than they need medical attention, says a team from the Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) deployed to the area of northeast Japan hit by the quake. The team from MSF, an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation, said that "houses and buildings had been completely destroyed" and that the locals said the "water from the tsunami had gone down from yesterday, but there was still a lot of flooding". The team is in an evacuation centre in Sendal City. They say that medical needs being met, with about 100 local people checking their health. Mikiko Dotsu, the coordinator of the MSF assessment team, said: "The authorities said that there are 90 DMATs (Disaster Medical Assistance Teams) already working in Miyage prefecture.
