SingTel Q4 profit plunges 9.6% on losses in South Asian units

SingTel said on Monday that profit for the October to December quarter fell to $902 million from $998 million a year earlier. Operating revenue rose 2.7 per cent to $4.8 billion from $4.7 billion a year earlier. SingTel said profit from SingTel's regional mobile units fell 7.9 per cent to $449. Indian unit Bharti Airtel's contribution to earnings dropped 30 per cent because of losses at South Africa's Zain Telecom, which Bharti acquired in 2010.
