The increase has provoked a mixed response on campus. Some say it is unfair, while others believe it is perfectly reasonable. Residents now pay one cent for two minutes of air-conditioning using prepaid cards. Until the start of this month, that one cent used to buy them three minutes of cool air. 'Why is there a 50 per cent increase when the increment in the electricity tariffs is less than that?' said third-year civil engineering student Jerald Tang, 23.
