Air-con fee up by 50% at NTU

AsiaOne Wednesday, Feb 15, 2012 SINGAPORE - Students at Nanyang Technological University will now have to pay more to enjoy air-conditioning in their halls of residence, reported The Straits Times. Charges were raised by 50 per cent this month. One-cent can now buy them two minutes of air-conditioning using a prepaid card, compared to three minutes previously. This means for eight hours of air-conditioning, students will have to pay $2.40. The university informed students about the fee hike on Jan 31, stating that it was due to a 2.3 per cent increase in electricity tariffs announced by Singapore Power. The director of the university's housing services office, Mr Jimmy Lee, told The Straits Times that this is the first time the fee has been raised after two years.
