[CNA] S'pore groups raising funds for Japan quake victims

SINGAPORE : Various groups in Singapore are finding ways to raise funds for victims of the massive quake in Japan. Singapore-based non-governmental organisation Mercy Relief has deployed an initial two-person team to Japan to determine ground needs before sending supplies over. The preliminary team is expected to be in Japan for two weeks. Following their assessment, relief supplies such as ready-to-eat porridge and water systems will be dispatched from Singapore. The humanitarian organisation is also seeking donations from the public. The Singapore Red Cross, companies and individuals are also showing their support. Groupon Singapore, a website that sells discount coupons, is now seeking donations for Red Cross. Gambatte! Japan from Singapore, a group consisting of individuals, businesses and musicians, will put up a charity performance on Thursday evening to raise funds ...
