Japan death toll expected to exceed 10,000

MINAMI-SANRIKUCHO, Japan : The death toll from the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on Friday is expected to exceed 10,000. Two thousand bodies were found on the shores of Miyagi Prefecture, which bore the full impact of the twin disasters. In a small coastal town of Minami-sanrikucho, which had about 17,000 people, more than half of them are missing or feared dead. Large boats have been washed ashore, and structures and buildings have all been levelled. Miles after miles of devastation can be seen all around. Tender reminders of the small community that once lived in the town are carelessly strewn across the broken landscape. The destruction has left so little that rescue efforts are noticeably thinner here. Locals said there is hardly anything left to recover. Near the coastline, survivors salvage the last drops of petrol from an abandoned fuel tanker truck....
