New Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme

SINGAPORE : A new Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme (CEV) will replace the Green Vehicle Rebate Scheme - which expires end this year. Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said one drawback of the Green Vehicle Rebate scheme is that it is based on technology, rather than the actual impact on the environment. The new scheme is based on carbon efficiency and will be applicable to all new passenger cars. Under the scheme, car models with low carbon emissions will enjoy generous rebates on their Additional Registration Fee of up to S$20,000. Those with high carbon emissions will have to pay a registration surcharge of up to S$20,000.
