Budget puts economy on sound footing

SINGAPORE: Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said the 2012 Budget aims to put Singapore's economy on a sound footing. Mr Chan said the government's approach is a targeted one that takes into account the country's long-term future. Mr Chan was speaking on the sidelines of a mock youth parliament sitting. He said the Budget reaches out to at-risk groups like children from dysfunctional families. He said the government wants to do more in prevention, so there are less problems downstream for those at risk. Although the Budget did not directly address groups such as young families and single parents, Mr Chan said the government will progressively reach out to all groups. "First we have to make sure that we grow the pie. And the second (step) is that we make sure that we can allocate and share the pie with all the groups in need," Mr Cha...
