Disability roadmap faces more work ahead

SINGAPORE: Cutting down red tape for employers who need funding to re-design jobs and work spaces and helping more children with special needs integrate in mainstream schools. These are some recommendations of a national disability roadmap for the next five years. Mobile Therapy Vans -- which is part of a fleet that supports 350 children with physical disabilities and who attend mainstream schools -- go around to schools and homes every day. In the van are all the basics needed for treatment, including a couch where physiotherapy, occupational therapy and even speech therapy can take place. Mobile Therapy is just one feature of a larger support programme provided by the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) that includes social work and counselling, as well as educational intervention.
