Scoot to fly to China, Japan by end of the year

SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines' (SIA) new long-haul, low-cost carrier Scoot plans to fly to at least five cities by the end of the year, including destinations in China and Japan, its CEO, Mr Campbell Wilson, said. Scoot, which had earlier announced that it would fly to Sydney and Gold Coast in Australia, is due to start flights in June or July. In a recent interview with Bloomberg TV, Mr Wilson reiterated that SIA set up Scoot to "provide incremental traffic to the group", noting that SIA is "missing out" on about a quarter of passengers at Changi Airport. SIA's passenger numbers rose 1.3 per cent last year, trailing an 11-per-cent surge for Changi Airport. Scoot will operate flights to destinations as long as nine hours away and offer fares as much as 40 per cent cheaper than full-service carriers, according to Mr Wilson, who was born in New Zealand and has worked at SIA ...
