Bird flu claims third victim this year in Indonesia - TODAYonline

The Indonesian health authorities have confirmed that a 19-year-old woman who died last week had contracted bird flu. She is the third person in Indonesia to die from the H5N1 virus this year. Concerns about bird flu have risen in the region with Cambodia, Vietnam and China reporting deaths from the virus this year. The latest Indonesian victim died a day after being admitted on Feb 13 to a hospital on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta. Tests on the victim after she died confirmed that she had contracted the virus. A Health Ministry team that surveyed neighbourhood was unable to determine the source of the virus. The Health Ministry said the woman had a fever for four days before arriving at the hospital. Indonesia recorded two fatalities from H1N1 in Jakarta in January. Agencies
